Tazewell is the seat of Claiborne County, which sits along the borders of Kentucky and Virginia. Tazewell is the third largest city in Tennessee. It offers all the big city frills far from the hustle and bustle of urban sprawl. Our county is made up of beautiful sloping fields, large forested tracts, many clear streams that criss-cross the county and, best of all, our friendly people.
Claiborne County is for the fun-loving people that enjoy the peace and
tranquility of unspoiled nature. Here you can escape the pressures and problems of big city life and still be only minutes away from some of the largest cities in the Eastern United States.
Norris Lake sits along the southern border of Claiborne County. With 850 miles of shoreline, the lake offers some of the finest fishing in the state. This is an angler's paradise with tons of largemouth bass, crappie, striped bass, rock fish, bream, catfish and a bounty of large walleye and sauger.
The first of the T.V.A. lakes built in the
late '30s, Norris Lake is fed by two large rivers, the Clinch and the Powell. We are proud of our many boat docks and camping facilities. The lake is also large enough for all types of water sports
Relax on the campgrounds or learn about our legacy in the large headquarters building, which features lectures, films and guided tours that will take you back into the days when Daniel Boone came through the pass.
Along with our superior elementary educational program, we are fortunate to have Lincoln Memorial University which is located in the heart of Claiborne County.
If you prefer a larger college, the University of Tennessee is located in
Knoxville. It has just completed an expansion of the football stadium which can now seat over 95,000 people, making it the third largest in the United States.
Claiborne County Hospital serves the area's health care needs.
Claiborne County is protected by two beautiful mountains--the Clinch Mountain on the south and the Cumberland Mountain on the north. We credit these mountains for our nearly perfect climate.
